Merideth. Aside from the literal Word of God, this is the most exquisite thing I’ve read all year. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. πŸ€πŸŒΏπŸ«€

I’ve been reading A LOT, Merideth. πŸ˜‚ LOL. Love you, too, sweet friend. Every blessing to you and your family. I was just telling Jordan yesterday how much I miss you guys.

Love every bit of this so much, friend. Thank you for putting this tension and beauty into such meaningful words.

I think being human means presence and experience, celebrated I. personality and quirks, the way we can be awkward or silly, react completely differently to things, and have odd preferences.

I agree with what you are saying about ART, but AI is forcing us to redefine or clarify the definition of art. Too many are accepting AI-created "art" as "art", which does not do what ART does. Instead, AI-created "art" does the opposite, diminishing the value of humans and reducing or eliminating space rather than holding it.

I agree completely! It’s so discouraging to see people calling what AI creates β€œart!” I actually redefine ART in my new book: Art Is How God Loves Us, (and in another essay here, will find it!) if you’re interested. Thanks for reading!!

To be human means to hold two things in apparent contradiction at once, to inhabit the both/and of paradox and find beauty in the tension. β™₯️ Wonderful essay!

Love these. Yes, I agree! πŸ’— thanks for reading!

Human means having empathy and kindness not just a function. Sad to see relationships in our culture being dehumanized.

Merideth Hite Estevez's avatar

Me too! You’re one of the kindest and most empathetic humans! πŸ’—

A misspelled word in the first stanza of a poem I just released to the public. A line where I can't get the beat to fit just right. The smell of three-day dirty old socks. A misplaced line in a drawing that becomes the focus of the drawing. The constant mess on my desk and worktable. The laugh and smile of my wife when I make a joke. A joke. Laughter.

BTW, the 400+ tabs would drive me crazy! I start getting antsy around six or seven depending on what I'm doing. But we all work differently with technology, and that also makes us human.

Dear Meredith, thank you for writing. Your words give words to my soul, that part of me so tender, quivering in dim light to not lose meaning. Your words are like a gentle warmth, a place to breathe, to connect to God and feel what truly matters. Only a human being can do this.
