The still small voice I heard when I was 27 was "There's got to be more to life than this." "This" being working at a job that was not fulfilling. I quit work (we'd lived on my husband's income for 7 years and saved mine) and while having to wait to start our family I volunteered to visit an elderly lady in a retirement home, did research for the Historical Society to determine if an old house should be put on the historical register, and took a doll house furniture class which led to my discovering the Quakers and therefore coming to realize, even though I'd believed in Jesus for 20 by that time, the Holy Spirit resided IN me. All three of these things played a huge part of who matured to become, 48 years later. With the prayers of my new elderly friend I finally conceived and eventually had three sons. As a stay-at-home Mom I was fulfilled more than I'd ever dreamed I could be. We struggled financially for several years, but I remained committed to being a day-at-home Mom and through that I learned that God wasn't just someone you prayed to, but that He actually answers prayers in His way, not necessarily in the way you're expecting. Now I have 7 grandchildren, a comfortable home we've been in for 45 years, and a husband I've been married to for 57 years. Thank you for sharing your faith life and asking your question. It has given me an opportunity to remember all the ways in which God has brought me up in Him. β€οΈ
So powerful, Merideth. Last nightβs journaling revealed a resistance now confirmed as I read your piece first thing when I woke up this morning. Thank you so much! Iβve been waiting to act on something for a project. Iβve already gathered hard data and somehow still wrote excuses (not enough time and resources). So the question: what are you waiting for? felt like clarity too. π you reminded me about courageβ to act even when afraid or doubt exists. So I will do so.
Canβt wait to hear what questions you carry! Tell me in the comments!
